Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Wusthof Culinar 3-1/2-Inch Paring KnifeCustomer Review: Actually two pieces - mine all rusted at the joint! Summary: 1 Stars
I really liked the look and feel of the Wusthof's Culinar line and had three pieces from it. I had only used them for a couple of weeks when they started to rust! The company leads you to believe that the Culinar knives are made from a single piece construction, but they are actually *two pieces* and there is a joint. Mine all rusted right at that joint, just from normal kitchen use. Needless to say I was very disappointed...I have switched to the Wusthof Classic line instead. I do not recommend buying the Culinar line knives.
Description of Wusthof Culinar 3-1/2-Inch Paring KnifeFor all your mincing, chopping and garnishes, use this 3.5-in. Culinar Paring Knife. Part of the Wusthof collection, it features the same legendary forged stainless precision blade and balanced design as lines such as Grand Prix. Its unique patented 18/10 stainless handle sets it apart from more traditional Wusthof knives, adding a contemporary elegance to a very timeless, functional kitchen tool.Prized possessions of professional chefs, Wusthof knives are an invaluable asset of any kitchen. Every element of this renowned cutlery contributes to its precision and ease of use. In Solingen, Germany, each piece is hand-forged in an extensive series of manufacturing steps by skilled craftsmen. The high-carbon stainless steel blades are hardened to maintain a sharp edge and full tangs provide perfect balance combined with the uniquely formed stainless handles. Elegant satin-finish handles sculpted from 18/10 stainless steel distinguish Culinar knives from Wüsthof's other cutlery lines. Otherwise Culinar knives embody all the virtues of other Wüsthof knives that have earned the German manufacturer world renown. The principal parts of a Wüsthof knife--blade, bolster, and tang--are forged from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel, and the blade is precisely tapered from bolster to tip and from back to hand-honed edge. Blades and beautifully formed bolsters are not as thick as some knives'. As a result, despite their heft, strength, and durability, Wüsthof knives are pleasingly delicate and marvelously balanced in action. This 3-1/2-inch classically shaped paring knife is ideal for cleaning and cutting fruits and vegetables. Like all fine knives, this paring knife should be hand washed. --Fred Brack
