Customer Review: The handle broke off in my hand

I'm the one who wrote the "disposable wusthof" review below. After more than a year of steady use, the the bird's beak parer just snapped in half in my hand, right where the tang ends in the handle.
Full tangs strengthen the handle, but I figured for a paring knife (that never hit a cutting board) a 3/4 tang was good enough. I was wrong - cheap knives are cheap knives. I'm buying the Classic version to replace this.
Description of Emerilware by W?sthof 3-Piece Paring Knife Set
Signed by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse (Bam!) and made by celebrated cutlery manufacturer W?sthof, the three paring knives in this moderately priced set have the same three-rivet, virtually indestructible poly handles as W?sthof's premium Classic knives. Instead of being forged, however, the blades and full tangs are cut from steel sheets by precision lasers. That means no bolsters, but it also means the knives are perfectly shaped and fit their handles seamlessly. Moreover, the blades' high-carbon stainless steel is identical to that of W?sthof's premium knives, only thinner. The three knives equip a kitchen for all little tasks. One has a 3-inch blade with a straight, serrated edge and a drop point for slicing tomatoes and soft fruits. Another has a tapered, 3-inch blade with a sharp point for peeling fruits and vegetables. The third has a sharply curved blade, known as a bird's beak, for shaping vegetables. The knives are dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is recommended to protect their edges. --Fred BrackParing Knives
